THINGS THAT I AM CURRENTLY ENJOYING IN DIFFERENT AREAS
MOVIES
-
THE ODYSSEY
-
The latest offering from my favorite filmmaker did not disappoint. It brings Christopher Nolan's grounded approach to storytelling into the world of ancient legend and mythology while telling the timeless epic with practical effects and human drama.

ORIGINAL STAR WARS TRILOGY
-
I recently introduced these movies to my children, who absolutely loved them, and was reminded of why the original is such a timeless delight of Sci-Fi/Fantasy and Adventure. I was also reminded of what a disappointment the Prequel and Sequel trilogies are and am hoping that the original trilogy will be rereleased in theaters next year for the 50th anniversary of the release of the original movie.

CURRENT READ: JESUS THE CHRIST BY JAMES TALMAGE
-
A comprehensive study of the life and influence of Jesus Christ, completed by one of His Apostles in 1915 while writing in a specially designated room inside the Salt Lake City Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The work combines scriptural references with scholarly insights with topical research and knowledge to provide a definitive portrait of the life and influence of Jesus Christ with a historical context.

CURRENT INTEREST: ANCIENT EPICS
-
After seeing "The Odyssey" in the movie theater, I was reminded of what amazing literature we have in the form of ancient epics. In addition to the Homeric works, I thought of two of my favrite works in this genre, Milton's "Paradise Lost" and Dante's "The Divine Comedy". I reread the beginning of "Paradise Lost", a suplication to a divine muse as a tribute from the 17th century Christian poet to his ancient couterparts, and required every ounce of restraint to not continue reading.

MUSIC
-
IRON MAIDEN
-
One of my all-time favorite bands, who I am thrilled are finally getting inducted into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame this year. The fact that they weren't inducted during their first year of eligibility two decades ago is a gross injustice that is finally being put right.

FOUNTAINS OF WAYNE
-
The most criminally underrated band of my lifetime. Their music shows us what Pop music should be, real instruments played by talented human musicians providing catchy tunes to accompany intelligent and clever human written lyrics, as opposed to the artificial slop that it has largely become today.
